A prominent Denver real estate broker and former chief of staff to Governor Bill Owens, Lee brings to the DURA board of commissioners an extensive background in government, real estate and community leadership.
In the 1980s, Lee served as campaign manager for several Colorado political candidates, including Apollo 13 astronaut Jack Swigert, who was elected into Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. Lee was later appointed by the White House to the Reagan Administration and served as a deputy director in the Region VIII office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Following his time with the Reagan Administration, Lee entered the world of real estate investment where he served as a partner and managing director for RMI Capital Management. He later became a part owner of RE/MAX Classic in Denver, which ranked among the metro area’s top producing firms.
Lee moved on to become the director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, where he served as a member of the Governor’s cabinet. Lee was later appointed secretary of the cabinet and chief of staff to Governor Bill Owens. During his three-year tenure, Lee functioned as the chief operating officer for the State of Colorado and was responsible for developing and leading a team of budget and policy advisors, as well as managing the state’s senior executives. Lee also served as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Science and Technology, and as the Governor’s designee on the Colorado Economic Development Commission and the Governor’s Financial Review Committee. Additionally, he chaired the Motion Picture and Television Commission Advisory Board and was a member of the World Trade Center Board of Directors and the Economic Developers’ Council of Colorado. After leaving the Governor’s Office in 2007, Lee returned to the private sector as a real estate broker for the Kentwood Company.
Today, Lee is an active leader in the community. In addition to serving the people of Denver on the DURA Board of Commissioners, Lee is the chair of the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District, as well as a member of the Metropolitan Football Stadium District Board of Directors, which represents the taxpayers who own Empower Field at Mile High – home of the Denver Broncos.
