The Westwood URA and associated Tax Increment Area were created in 1990. The Westwood Neighborhood Urban Renewal Plan set forth goals for the URA but no specific project was identified at the time the Plan was created. The Denver Urban Renewal Authority has participated in 42 projects within the URA consisting of numerous façade grant projects and several smaller redevelopment projects.
McDermott Properties, a local developer of affordable housing, purchased the 2.2 acre site at 3200 W. Nevada Place in 2015. The site is one of the five “recommended redevelopment areas” from the Westwood Neighborhood Urban Renewal Plan. The Westwood Crossing project aims to redevelop a largely vacant 2.2 acre site to include 98 affordable housing units at an Area Median Income (AMI) level not to exceed 60%, and 5,100 square feet of commercial space to be leased to local businesses.
