Spring cleaning tips

Spring is here, and that means it’s time for spring cleaning! Here are some tips for cleaning and reorganizing items throughout your home.

  • – Rearrange the linen closet. Clean out unused linens and bag them for donations. Toss out expired medicine, sunscreen and other wellness items. If space allows, use boxes and dividers to help organize items.
  • – Refresh your shower curtain. Put a plastic or vinyl shower curtain in the washing machine with two or three bath towels and detergent. Dry the curtain on low or fluff.
  • – De-fuzz the car. Use a lint roller to pick up crumbs and pet hair in hard-to-reach places throughout your car.
  • – Clean patio furniture. Combine a squirt of dish soap and a bowl of warm water to wipe down outdoor furniture with a rag. Rinse the furniture clean with a garden hose.
  • – Buff out furniture scratches. Remove scuffs or scratches from wood furniture with a walnut (no shell) to help mask nicks.
  • – Tidy up the microwave. Heat 1 cup of water, 3 tablespoons of vinegar and several lemon wedges in a bowl until the microwave’s window gets steamy. Let the bowl sit in the microwave for five minutes before opening and cleaning the grime up with a paper towel or rag.
  • – Shine silver with toothpaste. Wet dull silver and rub with a dot of toothpaste. Dry it with a clean cloth.
  • – Deep-clean knickknacks. Plastic toys, pet bowls and toothbrush holders are only a few items to load into the dishwasher for a good washdown.
  • – Polish plants with mayo. Clean dusty houseplants with mild soap and water, followed by a paper towel with a drop of mayo on the tops of leaves to make them shine.
