Top 5 Ways to Escape the Denver Heat

Calling all Denverites, let’s face it, it’s HOT! August can bring some of the warmest temperatures of the year in Colorado. But fret not, we were feeling the heat and compiled a list of a few ways to cool off around Denver.

The Del Mar Family Aquatic Center

This place just screams summertime. Located in Aurora, the Del Mar Family Aquatic Center offers fun for the whole family. With water slides, family pools and a playground, this place is a go-to for a hot summer day. Plus, did you know admission is FREE on Fridays?

Chatfield State Park Reservoir

Looking to cool off while also enjoying the great outdoors? Check out Chatfield Reservoir! Located just south of Littleton, this beach and reservoir is a nearby getaway perfect for when the heat just seems too much. The swim beach, which is on the southern side of the reservoir, is open from sunrise to sunset, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and only costs $10 per vehicle, per day. Feel like making a whole day out of the trip? The beach has public picnic tables and small grills, so pack a lunch and escape the heat!

Little Man Ice Cream Factory

You’ve probably heard of Little Man Ice Cream, but have you visited their factory? Located in the West Colfax neighborhood, this factory brings a fun, and delicious, way to cool off and spend your afternoon. Grab a sweet treat and explore every interactive experience this place has to offer. Think Colorado-brewery tour, but with fewer hops and more chocolate!

Saint Mary’s Glacier

Itching for an adventure? The further up in elevation you go, the cooler temperatures get, so pack up the car and head up for a day hike at Saint Mary’s glacier. This 1.5-mile hike is located near Idaho Springs, only an hour’s drive from the heart of Denver. The hike leads you around St. Mary’s Lake and up to the top of the glacier, and even in the summer months you may find snow, making this a perfect way to beat the heat.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Denver is home to many museums that provide opportunities to cool off indoors while also learning and interacting with their exhibits. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) is no exception and is a great way to spend a warm summer day. Plus, The Scientific & Cultural Facilities District provides funding for the DMNS to offer free admission days to make this an affordable activity. The upcoming free admissions times are Wednesday, August 11, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, September 1, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
